In this essay, Rodriguez's parents urged him to learn the English language. He did so, and this caused him to gain an obsession with learning. The more and more he learned, the more embarrassed he became of his parents because of their lack of education. This continued for several years until he finally realized that he was so successful because of his parents love and urge for him to learn.
This lesson is one of the most important lessons I think one can learn. Some people need to learn to stop being so selfish and take the time to learn what really has played an important role in their lives.

I agree with your comment that parents can not be taken for granted. Though we may not understand their rationale sometimes, they have sacraficed a lot for us and want whats best for us.
