Devil Wears Prada Review

The first ten minutes of this movie gives away the plot of the rest of the movie: Chick Flick. (No offense Mrs. Williams, I know you love this movie.) In the beginning of this movie, you see several beautiful girls along with an average girl getting ready for what seems like a big day. You automatically think that something good is going to happen to the average girl. As the day goes on, you find that she is going to interview for a big fashion firm, but clearly has no taste in fashion. Fashion...... great. As she is interviewed by the big scary boss who obviously has no care for others feelings, she seems to get rejected. But of course, the fact that she is the average girl makes her rebellious and she stands up to her interviewer, and of course she gets the job. Although I don't think Ann Hathaway and Meryl Streep are bad actresses, judging from the beginning of this movie, they can do better.

Movie That I am Going to Review and Stuff...

Transformers 2 is the movie I am going to be reviewing. I honestly choose it because it is one of my favorite movies, but I also understand the good and bad parts of it. The movie is pretty easy to understand. Basically, Megatron (the bad guy) is trying to harvest the Earth's Sun for Energy. Sam, the human hero, and the "Autobots" (the other good guys) have to stop him. They need to find some sort of key before Megatron does in order to stop him. Oh, and Megan Fox is in it too. Awesome.

You have a really nice website. Your introduction is really interesting and well put together. There are a few things you should look out for though. First, where is your Culture, Society, and Me essay and paper? Also try to include more pictures on your in class writings page, I know it's tough to find some for that, but be creative. You should also put a short description of your Blogs, essay and in class writings to help explain what they are to your audience, because if I wasn't in this class, I wouldn't really understand why you put those on the website. Other than those suggestions, your website is really good.

My Advertisement

My ad consists Santa Clause laying back in a chair drinking a beer with some sort of liquor. He is looking at papers and smiling and looks like he is having a good time. This is an ad for White Rock Alcohol.

I think that the argument is that even Santa Clause, a major international and religious figure, can enjoy White Rock Alcohol.

There are many sub texts and meanings to this ad I think. One being the fact that Santa is a Major icon. That fact being said, people could think that it is better to have that product.

Also, I think that this ad could be focused toward a younger audience too. The use of Santa in this ad could make kids want to use that product when they are old enough too, because they look up to Santa and if he does it, it's OK.

A third meaning to it could be that he looks like he is having a good time. In this ad Santa looks like he is having a very good and stress free time. This could make people think that when they drink White Rock, they will be stress free and have a good time.

Reading for 10/23

I decided to Blog about the reading for Friday 10/23. It was about gender roles in advertising and the use of sex appeal. I for one do not agree with the use of sex appeal and gender roles in adverstising. I think it is wrong for advertisers to put those crazy ideas into peoples heads. I think that it might take a little more than just cologne to get Victoria Beckham, like maybe money. I believe that there needs to be another way of advertising these intimate things, but unfortunately, sex appeal works.

Culture, Society, and Me Essay

I am honestly not entirely sure which project i want to do, but I am leaning more towards the CD side. Both projects I think I could do a good job on, and both I could explain myself pretty well with. I just think that the CD side will be better because although I do not sing or play and instrument, music to me plays a big role in my life. It would be easier for me to incorporate my life into made up songs than in a movie. Also if I do a CD I'm thinking that I should make the format a little like this one:

I just think it makes sense with the project at hand.

But I still haven't made my decision yet, and I will probably end up switching projects like I did with the Visual Literacy Narrative. Does anyone have any suggestions or input for me? Thanks.

Response to the Reading Achievement of Desire

The reading for this week I choose to blog about is the essay Achievement of Desire. I choose to blog about this because of the lesson to be learned. It taught you to not take things for granted, such as your parents.

In this essay, Rodriguez's parents urged him to learn the English language. He did so, and this caused him to gain an obsession with learning. The more and more he learned, the more embarrassed he became of his parents because of their lack of education. This continued for several years until he finally realized that he was so successful because of his parents love and urge for him to learn.

This lesson is one of the most important lessons I think one can learn. Some people need to learn to stop being so selfish and take the time to learn what really has played an important role in their lives.

Group Work

I think that doing the group project was a good idea. At first I did not think it was going to be good because I didn't think we would have enough time to do it and I had several tests to worry about this week along with this project, so the extention was a relief.
I think it was good to put us into our groups like this.I think it made us able to function better as a group doing an actual "project" than just doing some in class work. I'm not very happy with the project topic choice. I would have liked to do something a little more interesting than punctuation marks, but it is an English class so I understand that punctuations are fitting. I also don't like how we need to have a strict time limit, as I am very different in front of an audience than practicing by myself.
Other than those two things I don't think that this group work was too bad, and I learned that the dash is a pretty bad ass punctuation mark.

Did You Know Video

I decided to blog about the "Did You Know" video that we had to watch for Wednesday because I found it to be most interesting. I especially found the technology part of it the most interesting because a lot of that information is new and surprising to me. I did not know that the number of text messages sent so far exceeds the population of the planet. I also find it surprising that a $1000 computer will have the computation ability that exceeds the entire human race by 2049. I also find it surprising that it is predicted in ten years that China will be the number one English speaking country in the world.
Over all, I think this video is meant to send a message to our generation and the one below us. Not as a fatal warning, but as a look into what could come in our future and to help us prepare for it. I for one will take all this information into consideration.

Visual Literary Narrative Blog

I decided to do my Visual Literary Narrative on my trip to Germany two summers ago. Two summers ago, I took a trip to Wesel, Germany, with a group of kids from my school and another as an exchange student program. I stayed in Wesel with my German exchange student, Thilo, for about two weeks, then my group and I went on a side trip around Germany to nearly all major cities and locations for about a week and a half. We then returned to our exchange students for around a week and then departed.
I choose to do this project on my trip to Germany because it was one of the best experiences of my life AND there was a lot of communication involved. Before I went to Germany, I took a year of German at school, and I was terrible at speaking, but i could understand a lot of what they were saying to me. So if they ever had a problem trying to say a word to me in english, I could sometimes have them say it to me in German and I could tell them the word they were looking for.
For this project, I would only be able to sum up the trip in a power point presentation. A movie would not be enough unless I wanted to make it three hours long. I would feel better doing a power point for this project because then I could explain a little more in depth for you.
